The Effectiveness of Conjugaison and Derivation in Tafsir Al-Jawāhir al-Hasan by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Thaalabi Al-Jaza'iri

Abstract

Books of Tafsir are considered among the most applied sources for Arabic language sciences, especially grammar, morphology, and rhetoric. Tafsir scholars had pioneering linguistic views that are considered scientific achievements to this day. Among these scholars is Imam Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Thaalabi Al-Jaza'iri, whose cognitive and intellectual sources varied as did his scientific writings in Fiqh, Tafsir, I'rab, and Hadith. One of his most important works is "Al-Jawahir Al-Hisan" in Tafsir of the Qur'an, in which he invested the summary of his reading of other interpreters' books, and was keen to enrich it with treatment in various linguistic and Qur'anic sciences. What caught my attention in this Tafsir was his reliance on the mechanisms of Tasrif and Ishtiqāq to direct the meanings of Qur'anic vocabulary, which occurred consistently in his work until it became a distinctive feature in his Tafsir, through which his reliance on his linguistic culture and its impact on his guidance and semantic interpretations appears.
