Abstract

The article explores the concepts of translation in both traditional and contemporary contexts, focusing on its definition in Arabic and Western perspectives. These concepts have paved the way for the development of translation theories, terminologies, methodologies, and schools of thought. The initial Arab conception of translation's nature is illustrated through readings of excerpts from Al-Jahiz's "Book of Animals," which was influenced by the translation movement of his time. This enabled a transition from initial concepts to a defined framework for critiquing translations of various texts, including the meanings of the Quran and poetry. The study concludes by emphasizing the significance of terminological work in the field of translation studies.
