Al-Andalus was known for its abundance of female poets, including both slaves and free women. They grew up in a cultural environment characterized by its refinement, which contributed to the delicacy of their emotions and honed their talent for poetry. Andalusian female poets were distinguished by their broad culture. Some of the slave poets came from the Arab East, known for their eloquence and rhetoric. Among them were princesses like Wallada, who grew up in a refined civilized society. Some poets excelled not only in poetry but also in singing, humor, wit, and satire. Some raised their voices against the injustices and tyranny of rulers.
