Abstract

The grammatical definition was a definition of the scientific linguistic concept established by scholars. Each scientific term they introduced had a specific objective basis, known as defining the scientific concept within their field. This cannot be dispensed with and is known as the definition based on meaning, contrasted with the definition based on wording. Ibn Sarrāj relied on Aristotelian definition: defining by division, which involves dividing from the whole to the more specific parts. As for the objective definition of a concept, it adheres to specific principles, comprising characteristics that distinguish it from others, which must be acknowledged in its definition. The generalization and particularization of these characteristics can be beneficial and valid, provided that not all these definitions are confined solely to form.
